Things are getting back to normal after the Christmas holidays. I only worked one day during the Christmas break. Not that I planned that, but I got busy doing stuff that I didn't go in.

Susan and I both took yesterday off for my birthday. We went to Johnny Carino's for lunch. Then I barbecued some awesomely delicious steaks for dinner. Oh, they were good, too! Homemade bbq sauce. Then Susan made a cherry-chocolate cake. In between we got the mirror on the car repaired and dropped off and picked up kids from school. Got some reading done and rested. So a pretty good birthday.

Today Amanda woke up feeling horrible. Sore, swollen throat. Susan took her to the doctor and he said it was strep. Then the test for strep came back negative, which he said he isn't sure he believes. But she's on all sorts of meds and bed rest and a follow-up visit later this week. She's not to be dancing for a few weeks, which will kill her. She's getting ready for CATS at school and for competitions in her dance company, so she isn't going to want to take time off. I just hope she gets feeling better soon! I don't want her to be sick for her 16th birthday next week!

We are on the 12:30 church schedule now, thank heavens! It is so much easier with a teenager! I get a little more sleep, too.

It's so nice to catch up with you guys through your blog. Well I guess happy birthday is in order and I would love your recipe for your bbq sauce. Your girls are so beautiful! Take care.

I eyeball it, so these measurements aren't exact, but

1/2 to 3/4 cup ketchup
1 t liquid smoke
1-2 T Worcestershire sauce
3 T orange marmalade
1/2 t pepper
1/4 t salt
3 T salsa (the Pace type of salsa)
2/3 c brown sugar

mix it up and modify to taste. I've food-processed it to chop up some of the chunks, but it doesn't make that big of a difference. If you happen to have pineapple juice, some of that is really good in it, too.

If I'm going to marinate in it, I add 2t of white vinegar and about 1 cup water. I usually make both marinade and sauce, though... I brush the sauce on as it bbq's.
