Harvest Vacation

Yes, in our school district, we get two weeks off for Spud Harvest. So this year, having enough vacation time and enough bills to pay, I decided to drive spud truck for two weeks. Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to whenever we get done (usually about 9:00 p.m.), I am out in the dusty spud fields driving truck. It's a semi truck with a spud bed on it, which is a huge bin with a belt at the bottom. It holds about 30,000 pounds of potatoes. I drive up alongside the combine, which digs up 12 rows of potatoes, gets rid of dirt, clumps, and the vines, and then dumps them into the back of the truck. Takes about 2 minutes to load up 30,000 pounds of spuds. Then I take them either to a cellar or a transfer site, where the truck is emptied. Then back at it again.

The girls are enjoying the break as well. Playing and doing whatever. Susan is a trooper and gets up when I do to get my lunch and dinner packed for the day.

A couple of weeks ago the Eastern Idaho State Fair came to Blackfoot, again. I've been here for 19 fairs, and I personally am way past sick of them. I guess it's because I have to work extra for them. It's fun to go to the fair with Susan and the girls, but it sure is expensive! This year we went with Victoria for a day (Amanda has this neat thing called "dating" so the boys take her all the time, but we don't get any pictures of her with us). Victoria went on loads of rides and had a blast with some friends. She also went and saw the animals. Susan and I looked at a lot of the "boring" stuff. All in all, it was a fun day.
