4th of July Travelling

What a trip! We went to Utah for the 4th. We decided to take the van, which we haven't taken on a long trip since last year. We were going to earlier this year, but a few hours before we were going to leave, the temp gauge went really high and we decided not to take it. It's been fine since, so we decided to take it. Loaded 5 people up (we took Mandi's friend, Elliott). The van has been so neat... comfy, pleasant to drive and ride in, and roomy. Definitely the way to travel. Anyway, we got new tires on the front and we were off!

Loaded up and went to Lindon Friday when I got off work and stayed with Susan's sister. and then to Wales Saturday morning to see Susan's family. Went to the fireworks in Moroni... or did we?!!? Susan's dad was in charge of the entertainment. We were doing face painting and balloon animals. It went pretty good. I spent a lot of time blowing up long, skinny balloons. Unfortunately, the weather turned bad and we got wind, lightning, rain, and thunder. They cancelled the fire works. 45 minutes later, the weather was just fine. But it was fun to spend time with cousins and everyone.

On the way home on Sunday we stopped at the cemetery in Salem and then went to Salt Lake City to stop at my mom and dad's grave. We got into downtown and the van overheated. We stopped at some Asian market for a while and decided to go to Temple Square and let it cool down. We went to the visitors center on Temple Square and also to the Church History Museum. It was quite fun, until my cell phone rang. It was the stake executive secretary to let us know that the Stake President wanted to meet with Susan and I that evening. I told them we were in Salt Lake with car problems. After about 1 1/2 hours, we headed for Brigham City, where Susan's brother and his wife, James and Jenny, were kind enough to feed us a yummy dinner! We put more water in the van and headed home. We made it! Oh, yeah!
Anyway, that was our trip! It was a lot of fun, except for the overheating part. Until I can afford to have the van serviced big-time, I guess it won't be doing any more road trips. Darn.
Oh, and we haven't heard back from the stake president. Yet.

Wow, very eventful. Even though you had the car problems, it sounds like it was still a great getaway. Sorry about your fireworks though, that's a bummer. Let us know about the stake pres. mtg. That should be interesting!
